Young Guns by Robert Tuchman

Posted on 07 September 2009 by admin

young gunsRobert Tuchman, author of Young Guns and Founder of TSE Entertainment, deserves a big high-five for his accomplishments as an entrepreneur, for starting his business while he was still young and single, and for his enthusiasm surrounding everything business, sports and capitalism.  If only he would have used his own business knowledge to hire a professional writer to guide him along, the insights and experience he has to share in his book would be better appreciated.

That being said, the underlying material in Young Guns is helpful, motivational, easy to read and asks all the right questions.  “Why not me?”, the title of Chapter One asks a great one, in fact. A question that warrants a continual answering as your business progresses (at some point there may be a reason it shouldn’t be you).  Going beyond that, the author explains what (besides a good idea and youthful enthusiasm) is essential to starting and maintaining a successful business using real world examples.

I generally love reading inspirational stories from entrepreneurs who have experienced it all, especially at a young age, and honestly think this book would be a great beach read for someone young, just starting out, or in need of general direction (who also doesn’t care if the writing isn’t exactly prize-winning). If you don’t mind excessive exclamation points and an overall “cheerleader” feel covering up what is essentially useful (albeit basic) information, then Young Guns could be just the thing.

Maybe I’m just too old and less of a cheerleader than I used to be.

Slimware

Slimware

Lash Fary, single entrepreneur and celebrity gift expert just sent me a WONDERFUL product!  (Trust me, I don’t use all caps often).  If you haven’t heard of Slimware, it is a fabulous line of melamine dinnerware with built-in portion control reminders.  Place your veggies on the largest design portion (in this case the biggest flower), your side dish or carb on the middle section, and protein on the smallest.  Personally, I am working up to staying within the lines starting an inch or two outside, which is still is an adjustment.  On days when you don’t feel like “controlling yourself”, just ignore the pattern size and enjoy the design.  Thank you, Lash, for making portion control beautiful!

SPIbelt

Where did you put your keys the last time you went for an outdoor run?  If you are like me, they may have been hidden on your car tire, under a rock, hooked on a wrist bracelet that was jingling you into insanity, or worse yet, tucked into your sports bra or sock.  Thanks to Kim Overton, single entrepreneur and inventor of the SPIbelt, you now have another option.   Locally manufactured in Austin, Texas, the “Small Personal Item Belt” is a stretchy, non-bouncing carrier for all your little belongings like keys, ipod and phone.  It expands to fit pretty much anything you would need, and can even be used for insulin or an inhaler.  Kim sent me a SPIbelt in black to try for myself, and to be honest I was skeptical about the no-bounce claim.   The SPIbelt did bounce at the beginning of my run until I realized it was actually ME bouncing and the SPIbelt was just going along for the ride…  A little futher down on the hips, the bounce was gone and I forgot it was even there.   Thank you, Kim, for making exercising a little easier!

Celebriducks

Posted on 24 July 2009 by admin

ozzy_framedWant to get closer to your favorite stars?  Bring them in the bathtub!  Thanks to single entrepreneur Craig Wolfe, creator of Celebriducks, you can now do just that.  Celebriducks offers a wide range of characters from political (Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Uncle Sam), musical performers (Snoop Dogg, KISS, Elvis Presley), and classic screen stars (James Dean and Marilyn Monroe), among others.  The detail on these ducks is amazing, the packaging is just right for gift-giving, and Craig also handles custom orders if you need something special.  Aside from having a great product, kudos to Craig for holding up through all the licensing deals that go on behind the scenes to make these ducks a reality.

Learn more about Craig when I post his full interview, coming soon!

Mad Gab’s (Wildly Natural Body Care)

Posted on 23 June 2009 by admin

Sleepy Moose BalmIn the process of looking for cool, single CEOs, I’ve also stumbled across some great products made by other entrepreneurs (single and otherwise).  I’ve decided to highlight those products I find which might come in handy for the busy professional.  Gabrielle Melchionda, founder of Mad Gab’s was kind enough to send me a sampling of her fabulous natural body car line (I LOVE her branding).  I don’t know about you, but my days often run way into nights, and I love the idea of using a relaxing, soothing all natural product like this Lavender “Sleepy Moose Balm” when it’s finally time to wind down.  Check out her products at MadGabs.com (I especially love the peppermint scent) currently available for both retail and wholesale.  Gabrielle has a great product and would have been a great interview…except for that pesky little husband!
